Since our previous Doggy Date Day: Dogs’ Day Out events have been such a success, we have decided to make them a recurring monthly event for the rest of the year!!
If you haven’t heard of our Doggy Date Days, they are a way for community members to sign up and take one of our adoptable dogs out of the shelter for the day on a fun adventure! You can take them to a park for a hike/walk, through a drive-thru for a pup cup, to a dog-friendly store to meet new people and go shopping, etc. You can be as creative as you would like!
Save the dates for the upcoming Doggy Date Day events so you can sign up to take one of our shelter dogs out for a fun field trip. *NOTE: The September Doggy Date Day will be run differently as a weekend sleepover event with a shelter dog.*
APPLICATION PROCESS
If you would like to sign up, we will link the application within this calendar event and on our social media pages (Facebook and Instagram) the week of the event. Please stay on the lookout if you would like to participate in one (or more!) of our Doggy Date Days!
For each event, we will have between 10-15 dogs to choose from. If there is a particular dog you’d like to spend the day with, please indicate that on your application. If the dog is already matched, we will work with you to find another who is available. Dogs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and are subject to change (i.e., a dog gets sick, behavior changes, etc.).
REQUIREMENTS
You MUST have a reliable vehicle where the dog can be safely restrained or crated to transport them. When you arrive at the shelter, please bring a valid driver’s license with you for us to make a copy to have on file.
Pick-up will be at 9:30 a.m. on each date, at the Brougher Companion Animal Shelter – York County SPCA, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406.
Once you arrive, our staff will review basic safety and handling; this is required to participate in the program. We will be available to answer your questions before leaving with your dog.
Before you leave, all participants will take a short lap around our facility, walking their assigned dog with a YCSPCA volunteer to ensure they are comfortable handling them.
Dogs MUST be returned to the shelter by 4:00 p.m. After the event, we ask that all participants complete a “Dogs’ Day Out” report card. This information helps us learn more about dogs outside the stressful shelter environment. A link to the report card is available here: https://form.jotform.com/240396203250043.
