Welcome to the York County SPCA

Giving Animals A New Leash on Life

Since 1926, the YCSPCA has saved more than 350,000 animal lives (and helped countless humans too).

The York County SPCA is dedicated to providing long-term human and animal services to residents of York County through programs that find permanent, loving homes for displaced and stray animals, help control animal population growth, investigate and prosecute cruelty offenders, and educate the general public about animal wellness and safety. You can ensure animals have access to lifesaving care when they need it most.

Current Capacity

Animal Care Capacity

It takes a community to care for shelter pets.
Capacity of care means a lot more than what kennel or cage space is available for pets at the Brougher Companion Animal Shelter. It also takes into account our staffing, financial resources, and more. Because we are a no-kill shelter, it means that we never euthanize animals for space or because they have been in our care “too long.” When we near our capacity for care, we need our community to support us by adopting, fostering, volunteering, or donating.

Can't Adopt?

Save A Life By Fostering

In 2023, more than 0 pets were saved thanks to the dedication of our volunteer foster families.

Fostering saves two lives – the life of the animal in your home and the one we now have space for in the shelter. Our foster families create the capacity for us to care for more animals, and for pets struggling in the shelter environment, a foster family’s loving home can make a lifesaving difference. Join our foster team to help pets heal, grow, and prepare for their forever home.
